Emiliano Martinez agrees personal terms with Man United – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United have “agreed personal terms” with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in an explosive end to the summer transfer window for the Red Devils, Fabrizio Romano reveals.

United have been on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer with neither Andre Onana nor Altay Bayindir impressing last season since Ruben Amorim’s arrival in November.

And these unsteady performances have continued to plague the Red Devils at the beginning of this campaign with both players making game-changing errors in recent weeks.

Amorim has preferred Bayindir ahead of Onana but the Portuguese coach is between a hard place and a rock in terms of who he picks.

The United squad are reported to be “ uneasy ” with the goalkeeping situation with a lack of faith in both senior options.

The bulk of the transfer budget this summer has been directed towards the forward line with over £200 million spent securing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

But this has left little financial wiggle room to secure a new goalkeeper, despite the disastrous displays from Bayindir and Onana.

United have been most strongly linked with a move for Royal Antwerp number one, Senne Lammens, who enjoyed a superb season in the Belgian Pro League last year.

But, in an shocking development, the Red Devils now appear to be zeroing in on Martinez, having previously failed with a loan offer for the Villa goalkeeper earlier in the summer.

Romano reveals United have reached an agreement on personal terms with Martinez as an alternative to Lammens and have now “approached” Villa to agree a deal.

Tweet: “Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Emiliano Martínez and approached Aston Villa! As exclusively revealed this morning, Dibu is back as concrete option for #MUFC if Lammens deal doesn’t happen. Talks well underway now.”

The Italian transfer expert contends talks are “well underway” with Martinez back in the mix as a “concrete option” for United if “Lammens deal doesn’t happen.”

The Argentina international believed to be keen on the move with the World Cup winner possessing the confidence to wear the number one shirt at Old Trafford in a way which the existing options do not.

Whether United prioritise a move for Lammens or follow through on their last-minute pivot to Martinez remains to be seen – but it feels almost certain a new goalkeeper will be arriving at the Theatre of Dreams before Monday night’s deadline.
