Manchester United XI vs Burnley: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League today

Ruben Amorim looking for redemption after midweek Carabao Cup embarrassment at Grimsby

Ruben Amorim has made changes to the Manchester United side which was beaten by Grimsby in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

United were defeated on penalties by the fourth-tier Mariners at Blundell Park on Wednesday, and were 2-0 down at half-time.

That saw Amorim turn to his superstars on the bench, as he threw on captain Bruno Fernandes, first-choice centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, and new summer signing Bryan Mbeumo.

Fellow fresh face Matheus Cunha played the full game but missed a crucial penalty in the shootout, and it was Mbeumo who hit the crossbar with his second spot-kick to send the Red Devils crashing out.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of this fixture against Burnley, the Portuguese head coach admitted that he had considered quitting his post several times since taking over the reins from Erik ten Hag in November last year.

He also remarked that he sometimes loves his players, and sometimes hates them.

Amorim played Andre Onana for the first time this season against Grimsby, but the Cameroonian put in an error-laden display and is dropped in favour of Altay Bayindir.

At wing-back, Patrick Dorgu was sacrificed in the second half, as was Manuel Ugarte in the engine room. Neither return to the squad today.

Sesko and Magurie drop to the bench, while Casemiro comes back in midfield.

Noussair Mazraoui, previously thought to be injured, is a surprise inclusion on the bench.

One player who definitely won’t be involved is Alejandro Garnacho, who is at Stamford Bridge ahead of completing a £40million move to Chelsea .

Rasmus Hojlund is also unlikely to feature as he nears a switch to Napoli.

Manchester United XI: Bayindir; De Ligt, Yoro, Shaw; Dalot, Fernandes, Casemiro, Amad; Mount, Cunha, Mbeumo

Subs: Onana, Dorgu, Heaven, Maguire, Mazraoui, Mainoo, Ugarte, Sesko, Zirkzee
