A proposal has been submitted to Birmingham City Council that would see the North Stand significantly expanded.

That proposal has now been recommended for approval and barring any curve-balls will see the capacity of the stand approximately double to greater than 12,000.

The expansion would take the stadium's overall capacity to around 49,000.

Villa have found coping with profit and sustainability rules challenging amid efforts to try to challenge towards the top of the Premier League .

The Midlands side's chiefs want to expand their Villa Park home as part of efforts to increase the club's revenue streams across the board.

Villa Park is due to host matches at Euro 2028.

Club bosses want the proposed expansion to be completed by the latter half of 2027 in order to be ready well ahead of the tournament.

A council report on the matter recognises the need for improved transport links, should the plans be approved.

These include enhanced bus services, club specific coach routes and better cycling facilities.

A planning committee meeting on August 28 will consider Villa's North Stand proposal.

Villa are desperate to enhance revenue streams by turning their home into a year-round venue.

The current model for this is Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which in addition to football has hosted concerts, NFL games, rugby matches, championship boxing and an F1 karting track since opening in 2019.

Villa plan to open "The Warehouse" later this year - a new £100million site that can become the Midlands' premier concert and boxing venue - while also providing fans with the Premier League's largest beer hall.

While a state-of-the-art new club shop is also in the works.
