Sir Jim Ratcliffe ready to give Ruben Amorim THREE YEARS to prove himself at Man Utd

Ruben Amorim will be given time to prove he's the right man for Manchester United , according to owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Amorim is a man under pressure after a nightmare first year in charge at Old Trafford. The Portuguese replaced Erik ten Hag almost 12 months ago but could only lead United to a 15th place finish in the Premier League last season. That was their lowest finish for half a century and defeat in the Europa League final to Spurs ensured they failed to qualify for Europe for only the second time in 35 years.

Twice during his tenure so far has Amorim publicly offered to resign - if Ratcliffe and the rest of the club's hierarchy felt it was in the best interests of the club for him to go. But United chief Ratcliffe, who has complete control over the football operations at the club, insists "good guy" Amorim deserves to be judged over a three year period - the length of his contract - rather than his first year at the helm.

“He has not had the best of seasons,” said Ratcliffe. “Amorim is a good guy. I would say Ruben needs to demonstrate that he's a great coach over three years.

“That’s where I would be - three years - because football is not overnight.

"Look at Mikel Arteta at Arsenal , he had a miserable time the first couple of years.”

Amorim led United to a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the weekend, which took them into the international break in 10th position in the Premier League.

But he has taken only 37 points from a possible 102 at the helm and is coming in for widespread criticism for his stubborn refusal to change his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Asked whether the club's majority owners, the Glazers, may tell him to sack Amorim and what would happen, Ratcliffe insisted: “It’s not going to happen.”

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
