The three Premier League clubs who tried to sign Kobbie Mainoo on loan from Manchester United in the summer window have been revealed.
Mainoo requested a loan move to get more game time this season but United were unwilling to let him leave Old Trafford on a temporary basis.
There was no shortage of interest in the 20-year-old midfielder, with clubs in England and abroad approaching United over a potential loan move.
According to the Daily Mail , the three Premier League clubs who tried to bring in Mainoo were Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton.
Italian sides Napoli and Roma also enquired about Mainoo – as did French team Marseille.
Ruben Amorim was keen to keep Mainoo for the 2025-26 season, though, especially after Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount suffered injury problems.
‘I want Kobbie to stay and he needs to fight for his place,’ United head coach Amorim said.

‘We need Kobbie. That is not going to change. The players not playing with be disappointed but everyone will have opportunities. You have to fight in the week.’
Mainoo started in the Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town but was an unused substitute in United’s first two Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham.
He played for 45 minutes in United’s 3-2 win over Burnley last time out, coming off the bench to replace Mount.

Former Premier League midfielder Chris Waddle has urged Mainoo to ‘knuckle down’ and earn his spot back in United’s starting XI.
‘Kobbie Mainoo’s situation is a tough one,’ Waddle told Esports Bets .
‘The thing is that every player is happy when they’re playing, but when you’re not, there will be people in your ear saying you could be playing elsewhere.
‘If you keep playing well, you’ll get the shirt and keep it. For me, Mainoo has to just knuckle down and earn that Manchester United shirt back.
‘If it doesn’t work out like that, then do it the right way and look elsewhere, but he should at least try to fight for his place first.
‘It’s still very early in the season and United are still working out the balance of the team.
