He got into hot water with boss Thomas Frank after being disciplined for repeatedly turning up late at training.

And after being dropped by his manager for Tottenham's UEFA Super Cup loss to PSG, he was then ruled out with a knee injury.

Bissouma looked to have overcome his fitness woes after being called up by Mali during the international break.

He came on as a sub for the team in their 4-1 in over Madagascar but suffered a disaster just moments after arriving onto the pitch.

The 29-year-old, who was also wearing a bandage around his head, had only been on the field for nine seconds when he was chopped down by an opposition player in the 67th minute.

Bissouma looked in considerable pain as he rolled around in agony, clutching his leg and thumping the turf.

It came after he had just intercepted a pass and was looking to start a counter attack but was immediately floored and needed assistance from the team's physios.

He appeared to point to his ankle and he will be concerned having broken his ankle in 2023, ruling him out for the rest of the 2022-23 campaign.

The player was treated on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.

Tottenham fans feared the worst after seeing a clip of the injury on social media.

One wrote on X: "He shouldn’t of been allowed to play international. He hadn’t even played club football yet."

Another bemoaned: "Yeah he's not playing for us again."

A third said: "He just catch catch a break," as one added: "Unfortunate to see."

Bissouma has played 100 times since joining Spurs from Brighton for £25million in 2022.

He was a key part of the squad that won the Europa League against Manchester United in the summer after playing 44 times under Ange Postecoglou in 2024-25.

But he got off on the wrong foot with new boss Frank this season after the Dane revealed he had been late to training and meetings "too many times".

Frank said: "Bissouma isn't here because of disciplinary reasons. He's been late several times and the latest time was just one too many.

"You need to give your players a lot of love, also have demands, and there also need to be consequences. This time there was a consequence."
